Gas detector

Showing 1-9 4 views

The gas detectors in this group focus on the REMS Detect GS4 line together with its quick-change sensors. The unit indicates concentration with colour LEDs combined with a beep that changes frequency. With two signal channels running in parallel, the technician can trace the leak point without looking away from the area being checked. Two complete sets are available: 611095 R Set F and 611096 R Set R.

Separate sensors include GS4-F, GS4-R, GS4-S for ammonia and GS4-H for hydrogen. Accessories include a 200 mm flexible hose, the GS4-LED light head and a carrying bag. Choose a gas detector according to the gas group most often encountered in the workshop or on site. Suitable for pipework, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems and vehicles. All REMS article numbers are genuine and come with warranty.

REMS Detect GS4 gas detector and how it signals a leak

The gas detectors in this product group revolve around the REMS Detect GS4 line and the quick-change sensors supplied with it. The design targets leak location on pipework, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems and vehicles. The technician guides the probe along the joint and the unit responds immediately according to the gas concentration measured at that point.

Detect GS4 reports concentration through coloured LEDs combined with a beep that changes frequency. These two signal channels run in parallel. As a result, the technician can trace a leak without having to look away from the point being inspected. When working under a machine or behind pipe insulation, the acoustic signal takes the leading role. The LEDs serve to confirm the level.

All sensors in this group are of the quick-change type. A sensor plugs directly into the unit or into the 200 mm flexible extension, with no tools required. This mounting method allows the gas type being traced to be changed on site. One Detect GS4 therefore covers several different gas groups, depending on which sensor the technician carries in the bag.

Two sets supplied with a sensor

The product group currently offers two complete sets that differ in the sensor supplied. Both sets use the same Detect GS4 body, the same 200 mm flexible extension and the same carrying bag. The distinguishing point lies in the gas group covered by the included sensor. Which set to choose depends on the work most commonly carried out by the installation company or service workshop.

611095 R is the Set F, supplied with the GS4-F quick-change sensor and aimed at combustible gas leaks. 611096 R is the Set R, supplied with the GS4-R sensor for refrigerants. Both sets locate leaks on pipework, air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems and vehicles.

Quick-change sensors by gas type

The four sensor article numbers in this group are divided by the gas group to be traced. Each sensor plugs onto the Detect GS4 body or onto the 200 mm flexible extension. Once a set is already on hand, the user only needs to add the matching sensor instead of buying another unit. This arrangement extends the scope of work in line with the gas actually being handled.

611310 R is the GS4-F sensor for combustible gases. The sensor responds to butane C4H10, methane CH4, propane C3H8 and hydrogen H2. This range covers most leak-tracing situations on domestic and industrial gas pipework. When one sensor is needed for several combustible gases, this is the article designed for that purpose.

611312 R is the GS4-R sensor dedicated to refrigerants. The list of refrigerants includes the following.

  • R-22
  • R-32
  • R-134a
  • R-152a
  • R-290
  • R-404a

The sensor also responds to the following.

  • R-407c
  • R-410a
  • R-507a
  • R-600a
  • R-1234yf

This refrigerant range serves maintenance work on domestic air conditioning, cold stores and vehicle refrigeration systems.

611313 R is the GS4-H sensor dedicated to hydrogen H2. The sensor is not cross-sensitive to other combustible gases, so the signal reflects hydrogen correctly at the point of inspection. 611311 R is the GS4-S sensor used to trace ammonia NH3 leaks, serving systems that run on this refrigerant.

Accessories that support work on site

The three remaining accessory articles address the obstacles commonly met when tracing leaks in concealed positions. Frequent issues include insufficient light and a probe that cannot reach a narrow gap. There is also the matter of carrying the unit together with its sensors out to the site. Each accessory mounts directly to the Detect GS4, so the familiar way of operating the unit stays unchanged.

611213 R is the 200 mm flexible extension connecting the unit and the quick-change sensor. The extension body can be bent and holds its shape after bending. The probe therefore stays put exactly at the point to be checked, while the technician still holds the unit in a position convenient for reading the signal. The extension is useful for joints located deep behind insulation.

611314 R is the GS4-LED quick-change light head, which plugs onto the unit or onto the 200 mm flexible extension. This head turns the Detect GS4 into a lamp for illuminating concealed areas while tracing a leak. 611212 R is the carrying bag, holding the unit, the flexible extension and the sensor set in one bag for transport.

How to choose according to the work at hand

The first step is to identify the gas group present in the system to be checked. Companies working on gas pipework and commercial kitchens usually start with the Set F. Refrigeration workshops and vehicle air conditioning services usually choose the Set R first. Once the unit body is on hand, extending the range is simply a matter of buying the matching sensor.

Where the work involves hydrogen or ammonia, the two dedicated sensor articles can be added to an existing set. The user keeps the same Detect GS4 body and changes the sensor on the spot. The carrying bag 611212 R is already included in the Set F and Set R, and is also sold separately for replacement when an old bag is damaged.

Notes on use and storage

The sensors and the LED head both use quick-change plugs, so the plug connection should be checked before each shift. When tracing in a narrow position, fit the flexible extension first and then attach the sensor to the end of the extension. Bend the extension into the required shape and keep the probe steady throughout the scan along the joint.

After work, store the unit, the flexible extension and all sensors in the carrying bag to avoid knocks during transport. This storage method also makes it quick to count the sensors before each trip to site.
