Nine chisel profiles, twenty-four tools, and widths from 1 mm to 20 mm make up this carving set. Handles are turned from white oak in an octagonal cross-section, so the tools stay put on the bench. Blades are hardened to 61 HRC for edge retention in hardwood. An Arkansas natural stone is included for honing.
The 24-piece octagonal wood carving chisel set 3156000 gathers nine blade profiles in one case. Widths run from a 1 mm pointed chisel up to 20 mm straight and U-shaped blades. Each blade is hardened to 61 HRC at the cutting edge. Handles are white oak, turned to an octagonal cross-section. The eight facets stop the tool rolling off a sloped bench. They also give repeatable hand positions when a cut is copied across a panel.
An Arkansas natural sharpening stone ships with the set. It hones the factory bevel between carving sessions and removes little material per stroke. The profile range covers both roughing and finishing in hardwood and softwood. Straight and skew blades flatten grounds and clean corners. Curved, U-shaped and spoon blades hollow concave forms. V-shaped and corner blades cut lines and define borders. The chisels are seated in a fitted wooden box of roughly 555 x 295 x 45 mm.
White oak was chosen for the handles because of its density and its response to mallet work. The octagonal form measures about 25 mm across flats, which suits both palm and mallet grips. Blades are ground from alloy tool steel and through-hardened at the edge. The 61 HRC figure balances toughness against edge holding in dense timber.
The eight facets serve two purposes on the bench. They keep the tool from rolling toward the floor. They also let the carver feel blade orientation without looking. Honing on the Arkansas stone keeps the bevel angle consistent. Longer resharpening intervals follow from regular light honing rather than occasional heavy grinding.
The set is built around graded widths inside each profile family. Straight blades give the widest coverage, from 2 mm to 20 mm. Skew, curved and spoon blades handle corners, sweeps and hollows. Corner and V-shaped blades are supplied in narrow sizes for line work. A single 1 mm pointed chisel closes the range for incised detail.
Width steps inside each family allow a carver to move from waste removal to detail without changing tool type. A 20 mm straight blade clears volume quickly. A 6 mm skew then trims the corners left behind. Spoon blades reach into recesses that a flat blade cannot enter. The 1 mm point marks texture and hair lines.
The set suits relief carving, sculpture in the round, letter carving and decorative panel work. Straight blades remove waste and flatten backgrounds. Skew blades clean corners and undercut raised edges. Curved and U-shaped blades shape concave surfaces and hollow forms. V-shaped blades incise outlines and separate borders. Spoon blades work inside bowls and deep recesses. The narrow pointed chisel adds fine texture at the finishing stage. Both hardwood and softwood projects are served by the width range.
Code 3156000 is supplied in a wooden box with fitted compartments for every chisel and for the sharpening stone. The box measures about 555 x 295 x 45 mm. A microfibre roll version is listed separately for carvers who travel. An empty replacement wooden box is also available for the same layout.
