Three carving chisels, three carving knives and one sharpening stone make up this seven-piece Kirschen set. Handles are turned from hornbeam, and every blade leaves the factory honed to a 17° bevel for softwood. The mix covers relief shaping, ornamental carving and fine finishing cuts. The included stone keeps edges keen between jobs. Tools ship in a carton box.
The wood carving tool set Kirschen 3427000 brings together seven items for sculpting and ornamental work in wood. Three carving chisels, three carving knives and one sharpening stone form the group. Each handle is turned from hornbeam, a dense hardwood with a smooth finished surface. Blades arrive honed at the factory to a 17° bevel. That geometry suits softwood, where a shallow edge cuts with less force.

Every tool in the set covers a specific stage of the work. The chisels remove stock, cut grooves and shape relief. The knives trim, pare and refine the surface. The stone restores the edge once cutting resistance rises. Blade hardness is rated at 61 HRC, which helps the edge hold between sharpening cycles. The set is made in Germany and supplied in a carton box for transport and storage.
Three carving chisels carry the codes 3201008, 3208006 and 3239006. They cut grooves, hollow out recesses and define the outlines of relief work. The hornbeam handles have a rounded section that fills the hand and takes light mallet taps. Steel hardness of 61 HRC keeps the edge working longer, so regrinding is less frequent during a carving session.
Control matters more than force in relief carving. The round handle lets the carver steer the blade along curves and stop the cut precisely. Because the bevel is already set at 17°, the chisels can be used straight out of the box. Later touch-ups on the supplied stone keep the same angle, which preserves the original cutting behaviour of each blade.
The three carving knives are coded 3351000, 3353000 and 3356000. Their thin blades reach into tight corners and small details that a chisel cannot enter. Typical tasks are paring, thinning and cleaning up a carved surface. The bevel matches the chisels at 17°, and the hornbeam handles give the same grip feel across the whole set.
Low mass reduces fatigue during long finishing passes. A stable edge also reduces the chance of the blade skating off the grain. Carvers usually work from chisel cuts to knife cuts, moving from bulk shaping to surface definition. Keeping all six cutting tools at one bevel angle simplifies sharpening and gives predictable results on the same timber.
Stone code 3707002 is included for edge maintenance. It brings back the cutting edge of both the chisels and the knives after use. Regular honing keeps cutting resistance low and avoids the heavier work of a full regrind. Having the stone in the same box means maintenance can happen at the bench, without extra purchases.
Edge care directly affects surface finish in carving. A honed blade leaves a cleaner cut face and tears fewer fibres on softwood. Short, frequent honing sessions extend the service life of each blade compared with waiting until the edge is fully dull. The stone therefore belongs to the working routine, not only to occasional repair.
The set is used for relief shaping, decorative pattern carving and detail work on wooden craft pieces. It also serves repair and restoration of carved objects. The 17° bevel is matched to softwoods such as pine, spruce and beech, where the blade enters with moderate pressure. Workshops, craft studios, vocational training rooms and model makers all use tool groups of this kind for hand carving tasks.
Manufactured in Germany. Seven items per set: three carving chisels, three carving knives and one sharpening stone. Handles in hornbeam with a smooth surface. Blades pre-honed at 17°, hardness 61 HRC. Supplied in a carton box that protects the tools in transit and on the shelf.
